Add a search applet to your Website
Adding search capabilities to your Website has never been easier. Copy the code out of the HTML help file and paste it into your own page. Customize it if you wish, using the large list of parameters available. The next time someone logs onto your Website, they are greeted with Site Search Applet, a small shareware Java applet. Site Search Applet can find matches on single words, all words, or a phrase. You can customize it to search all pages on your Website for links, to display only a certain number of hits, and to begin the search at a particular page. You can change the font and colors used, as well as the applet’s size, the labels for its controls, and its title bar. There are many more parameters, and they are all documented in the included HTML help files. Although downloading the 23K Java applet takes some time, it is well worth it. The searching mechanism seems to be solid, and the flexibility means you can make it act and look the way you want. This is a 10-day trial version. Reviewed on Jul 26 1998.
